Curriculum

At Freedom Life Academy, we believe a strong education should prepare students academically, spiritually, and personally for the future God has planned for them. Our curriculum is intentionally selected to provide students with a strong academic foundation while keeping a biblical worldview at the center of their education.

PreK–3rd Grade | Abeka

Students in PreK through 3rd grade primarily use Abeka, a structured, traditional Christian curriculum designed to build strong foundational skills during the early years of learning.

Abeka's spiral approach introduces concepts in a developmentally appropriate way and provides frequent review and reinforcement as students progress. Particular emphasis is placed on developing strong skills in reading, phonics, language, handwriting, mathematics, science, and history.

These foundational years are designed to give students the skills, confidence, and academic habits they need to be successful as they move into more advanced coursework.

4th–12th Grade | BJU Press

Beginning in 4th grade, students primarily transition to BJU Press (Bob Jones University Press) curriculum. BJU Press provides rigorous, grade-appropriate academics taught through a biblical worldview, encouraging students not only to learn information but also to think critically, apply what they have learned, and view the world through the truth of Scripture.

As students’ progress through middle and high school, coursework becomes increasingly focused on developing independent learning, critical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, and preparation for life beyond high school.

For select upper-level high school courses, additional curriculum resources and supplemental materials may be incorporated to meet specific course requirements and provide students with the strongest educational experience possible.

A Biblical Worldview in Every Classroom

At FLA, biblical integration is not limited to Bible class or chapel. We believe faith should be woven throughout a student's educational experience.

Students are encouraged to recognize God's hand in history, His design in science, His order in mathematics and language, and biblical truth throughout every area of learning.

Our approach is rooted in Proverbs 22:6:

"Train up a child in the way he should go."

We strive to provide classrooms that are structured, engaging, challenging, and supportive. Our goal is to meet students where they are while continually encouraging them to grow—academically, spiritually, and in character.

Ultimately, our curriculum is more than a collection of textbooks or courses. It is one of the tools we use to fulfill our mission of providing a Christ-centered education that equips students with the knowledge, character, and confidence they need for whatever God calls them to next.

Dual Enrollment

Freedom Life Academy is proud to offer Dual Enrollment opportunities through Northwestern State University for eligible juniors and seniors. Dual Enrollment allows students to begin earning college credit while still in high school, giving them the opportunity to challenge themselves academically and get a head start on their college education.

Eligibility is based on Northwestern State University's admission requirements and may include the student's cumulative GPA, approved assessment scores, academic performance, and/or counselor recommendation.

Through Dual Enrollment, students can:

  • Earn both high school and college credit for approved courses.

  • Begin building a college transcript before graduating from high school.

  • Earn college credits that may reduce the time and cost required to complete a college degree.

  • Potentially enter college with sophomore-level standing, depending on the number of credits earned and the policies of the college or university the student attends after graduation.

  • Pursue opportunities through NSU's Fast Forward program that may allow qualifying students to earn an Associate of General Studies degree while still in high school.

Dual Enrollment gives our students the opportunity to begin working toward their future while still receiving the support and guidance of Freedom Life Academy. Course selection and eligibility are reviewed individually to help ensure each student's Dual Enrollment plan supports their high school graduation requirements and future college and career goals.

TOPS Eligibility

Freedom Life Academy is committed to helping students prepare for their next steps after graduation. Students who wish to pursue TOPS (Taylor Opportunity Program for Students) have access to the coursework necessary to complete the TOPS University Core Curriculum.

Our staff works closely with students and families to help plan a high school course of study that aligns with current TOPS academic requirements and the student's post-graduation goals.

Because TOPS eligibility is determined by the State of Louisiana and includes requirements beyond completion of specific high school courses, such as GPA, ACT scores, residency, application requirements, and applicable deadlines, families are encouraged to work with our Student Advisor throughout high school to ensure students remain on track.

Our goal is to make sure every student understands their options and has a clear academic plan for life after graduation.
